Born as the Lombard castle, after the dissolution of the feudal system and the redistribution of land has taken place under the agrarian reform Leopoldina (XVIII century) Guardistallo saw the advent of a new class of wealthy landowners.

The history of Monteverdi began in 754 with the founding of the Abbey of San Pietro a Palazzuolo by Benedictine monks led by Walfredo Lombard St., considered the founder of the Gherardesca. In the Oratory of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as sculptures of the Sienese school and a wooden crucifix of the Florentine school, seems to have buried the body of the saint.

Documented as early as the tenth century, Pomarance boasts a Romanesque church with works by local painters and Nicholas Cercignani Cristofano Roncalli (known as Pomarancio). Among the many palaces are mentioned Vicariale Palace, the Praetorian Palace, the Museo Casa Bicocchi, Palazzo Ricci (which displays a collection of ceramics from the XVI and XVII centuries) and the Palace Theatre De-Larderel, which together with the Theatre is home of the Brave cultural events.

The recent history of Pomarance is linked to the name of French engineer François De Larderel, which began the construction of complex Larderello, using geothermal energy from the ground. The landscape here is characterized by huge pipes which lead the steam to power and the cooling towers, creating an unusual atmosphere, deserving the name "Valley of the Devil." We recommend visiting the Museum of ENEL Geothermal, where live demonstrations of the power emitted by an endogenous force head. Geothermal energy is still exploited through the latest technology to provide electricity and heating in the area.
